As of the 2000 census, Hazlet Township had a population of 21,378 residents and a total area of 5.7 square miles. Hazlet, New Jersey is less than 40 miles from New York City (NYC) and is less than 60 miles from Philadelphia, making commuting fairly short and easy. The township was also the last town in New Jersey to be home to a drive-in movie theater, the "Route 35, Drive-In." In 1991, the theater closed and reopened in Vineland, New Jersey.
